    Key Takeaways

    • Over one-third (37%) of Brazilian respondents plan to wager on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with 77% planning to engage with the tournament overall
    • Bets on match results lead preferences at 51%, with total goals wagered second at 26%
    • Traditional broadcast television dominates viewing plans at 73%, compared to 31% for streaming platforms
    • The tournament features an expanded 48-nation format spanning June 11-July 19 across North America
    • Pre-tournament odds favor Spain for the title, while Kylian Mbappé leads top scorer predictions

Recent research indicates that a significant portion of Brazilian sports fans are preparing to wager on the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026. The findings come from a Kantar study completed in November 2025, which surveyed 600 individuals throughout Brazil.

The research revealed that 37% of participants indicated their intention to place bets during the tournament. Meanwhile, a substantially larger proportion—77%—reported plans to consume the event through various channels.

The global football championship is scheduled to take place between June 11 and July 19, 2026. North America will serve as host, with matches distributed across venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This edition of the World Cup introduces an enlarged competition structure featuring 48 participating nations, representing a significant increase from the previous 32-team format. Tournament officials anticipate a worldwide viewership potentially reaching 5 billion people.

The unprecedented size of this competition has captured the interest of gambling companies and commercial partners across the globe.

    Result-Based Wagers Dominate Betting Preferences

When examining betting intentions more closely, wagers on match results emerged as the clear favorite. Research data indicates that 51% of those planning to bet prefer markets focused on individual game outcomes.

Total goals scored ranked second among betting preferences, attracting 26% of prospective bettors. Wagering on the overall tournament champion appealed to 18% of survey participants.

More specialized match result markets captured 10% of respondent interest. Meanwhile, top goalscorer bets registered at 8%.

This pattern suggests Brazilian bettors gravitate toward simpler, more accessible betting markets. Such wagering options also represent the most commonly available products from licensed operators.

Viewing Platform Preferences Among Brazilian Fans

Traditional free-to-air broadcasting continues to hold the strongest position for World Cup consumption among Brazilians. Survey results showed 73% of participants selecting this as their primary viewing option.

Subscription-based television services ranked second with 39% of respondents. Digital streaming platforms captured 31% of viewing intentions.

Social media channels attracted 23% of participants, while radio broadcasting registered minimal interest at just 4%.

The research demonstrates that fan engagement now extends far beyond live match viewing. Approximately 68% of those surveyed indicated plans to follow tournament news coverage.

Half of all participants expressed interest in engaging with memes and social media conversations surrounding the event. Video highlights appealed to 38% of respondents, while 32% showed interest in match statistics and data.

These findings illustrate a diversified consumption approach where supporters interact with the tournament across multiple platforms simultaneously. While television maintains its leadership position, digital channels continue expanding their influence.

The Kantar research did not provide specific information regarding statistical margins of error or comprehensive demographic distributions. The 600-person sample represents a limited cross-section of Brazil’s population exceeding 200 million residents.

Nevertheless, these results align with broader trends regarding how Brazilian sports enthusiasts engage with premier sporting competitions. Wagering has increasingly become an integrated component of the sports consumption experience throughout the nation.

Regarding actual betting markets, preliminary odds from leading bookmakers position Spain among the tournament favorites for the championship. France’s Kylian Mbappé features prominently in top scorer predictions for the Golden Boot award.

As the June 11 tournament launch date draws closer, wagering participation throughout Brazil is projected to intensify during the upcoming months.
